It's Been 2 Years!

Hey dears,

Once again, it's the 1st of April. Somehow for me, SYF '09 didn't seem all too long ago, despite the fact that 2 years have indeed gone by. Looking back at the posts in April 2009, it seemed like we didn't take the results too well at first.

But this time, let's be stronger. This time, let's go in with the right mindset. To play our best music, not to achieve any tangible awards, but to really just touch the adjudicators and audience with our pure love for the music we play. Did all of you watch the youtube video on Mr Yagisawa's message to SYF '11 participants? He would like all of us to deeply feel for the music just as how he poured so much effort into composing them, and just remember all the memories of our performance together.

At the end of the day, this is really what we should be aiming for right? The tangible awards, are not ends in themselves, but a form of recognition that would come our naturally if we just adopt a right attitude towards our playing.

At the end of the day, it is the joy of the process we want to remember, and not about how we got too caught up in the achievement of such a tangible award that we forgot to savour the moments in which we were bonded by this one same spirit - our love for music.

There's only 7 more days! Let's really make the best of it, hand in hand. We are one RGSSB, and we'll be there for each other, always (:

I'm happy to see that everyone (right? ><) enjoyed themselves :)

I hope that you didn't treat it as just any other camp, but a camp where we truly bonded closer as a band and I hope you guys felt the encouragement and support we have been trying to express in the activities. :)

I know everyone has vastly different feelings and thoughts towards SYF, but I'm sure our goal is common right? that is, to perform the music in our hands to the best of our abilities as a band so as to truly convey the meaning and message behind the pieces, as much as possible, to the audience.

haha, I'm sorry if you're seeing this again -- I've been preaching it a lot to the people I have talked to i.e. my section and mutual sharing group.

but I just wanted to say, amidst all the SAs and PTs and practices and indiv time etc, don't ever forget that you have committed yourself to 4 years of making music since you got into this CCA, which is RGSSB, and because of that, you should never ever let it slip your mind that you always have to be constantly improving yourselves so as to be able to bring even better music to our audience as a band. only when we improve ourselves to be better, then can we convey the meaning behind our music more clearly and leave a deeper impression on those who listen.

haha, I have no idea who will be reading this, but I just hope that whoever's reading this, whether you're from my batch or not, that you'll always remember that music is only music when we put our heart and soul into it.

hmm, but remember what MO always says to us these days: expression doesn't need to be through the tempo.

don't lag, come in on time, end together, listen out especially when there are harmonies to blend in, be happy about being able to play music together as a band :)

I love our directs for choosing such a wonderful batch song. I love our batch for being just the way it is. I love our band for being RGSSB.

I think it's something about SYF, it gets me all sentimental at times.

Sigh... our blog is getting dead-er and dead-er as the days pass. Will we even have time to look back and reminisce our days in RGSSB next year, when our blog is already so dead in Sec 4?

I wish we were still in Sec 2, when we had much more free time to interact with one another. Now the only free time we have is spent doing homework, or doing band housekeeping stuff. We don't really get to fully enjoy band like we did last time (though we get to lead the band, finally :D)

I miss Turandot~

But I love Sagrada all the same. And SF too.

I'm seriously going to miss band when we leave. All the pracs, sectionals, instruments, juniors... So I really hope this SYF is going to a meaningful one. And we can keep it as part of our memories of RGSSB forever. Because the outcome doesn't count, only the process does.

Can you believe survived the last 2 weeks - Exams are finally over!!! Save for RA exams and philo of course, but it's still worth celebrating no? xD

Hey all! :)

I hope you have enjoyed your short but sweet holiday! Unfortunately, knowing the likes of us, most of the time was spent mugging. Which is pretty unfair, I think. The dictionary on my Mac - which apparently is the combined strength of 4 sources (who knew?) : New Oxford American Dictionary, Apple Dictionary, Wikipedia - English, and Oxford American Writers' Thesaurus, no less, mind you- states that a holiday is "a day of festivity or recreation when no work is done". Highlights "NO WORK IS DONE". We should show this to the principal and teachers, no? That'll teach 'em. :)

Oh, my dad just told me that he was going to conduct a test. Naturally, the feisty me, being ALWAYS game for tests, was all "WHAT? WHAT? WHAT?!" But all my dad said was, "Follow me", and, with an air of mysteriousness, disappeared into the kitchen. [I may have imagined a little eyebrow raising over here.] Well well, I never thought I'ld see the day where my parents condone my little out-of-the-world experiments, let alone encourage it, so all the more I was hyped up and ready to go. And guess what? It turned out to be a "food test". Which is not to say that I didn't fully enjoy it. But I should have known. Excited Dad must equal to FOOD. Just like 2 must equal to, well, 2.

Anyway, I practically socked my brain trying to do History notes. Which is quite fun :) Even though I know I'm just wasting time.

BUT that was so not what the point of this entry is. [I know, I know. This entry actually has a POINT?!?!] The point is this: I was web-surfing the other day, out of pure boredom and to escape from History notes, when I chanced upon this: http://www.miathermopolis.com/?p=105. Well, I know I could paste it here, but then I was afraid I might do some weird thing and screw up the formatting again (thanks Celine for saving my skin!! :D). And I also thought it looked nicer there. Y'know, with the pictures. :))) Anyway, this article was so funny, that I laughed and laughed and laughed. Or maybe its just me. (I know I have a thing with laughing.) But it was really funny okay!! :) Please promise me you'll read it! :D And if you, like me, had any misconceptions regarding what a candy hole is, please tell me too! :D Provided you don't find it too embarrassing :)

there's only 1 word to describe my feelings while reading the archives. I'M TOTALLY DISGUSTED/ FEELING SUPER WEIRD / SPEECHLESS / FEELING LIKE PUKING. okay that's more than 1 word, but you get the point.

i think this is all ernie's fault. seriously. if she hadn't reminded me of this obscure thing and of my previous posts, i think i might be able to live the rest of my life fairly well, without any sort of trauma. but now...argh.

anyway. HAHA signaturely, i'm not supposed to be blogging, and my english still sucks, but never mind. oh whenever i look at the pictures taken previously, i always think: 'WTH! DID I SERIOUSLY LOOK LIKE THAT?!?!?" and obviously, the answer, is sadly, always "yes". what a life.

its sort of cute to be browsing through the archives and see the previous swoon-worthy things (eg The Legend, BOF etc) that our batch was soooo excited about. and then now not think its swoon-worthy anymore. AND I LOVE THE POEMS!! they totally spell A.W.E.S.O.M.E!! blah. i'm not thinking straight.

LET'S ORGANIZE ANOTHER BO!! :))) haha up till today, i still LOVE saying BO. BOBOBOBOBO!! (for those with long-term memory loss, BO = batch outing) and if you say it really, really fast, then it becomes BOBOBOBOBOBOBOBO :)) FASCINATING!! as usual, let's go somewhere anti-zoo, anti-bird park, anti-goat farm etc WE CAN GO TO THE BEACH AGAIN!! oh wait, is true that the last BO at some park somebody vomited?!?!? (i suddenly have a sneaking suspicion that its ernie..) or some biking incident or whatsoever. :D

ANYWAYANYWAY, my dear friends, let's not rake up the past anymore a.k.a. repost stuffs + pictures UNLESS i look like super glam there (which is never. ) :)) or if other batchies (except me) look super unglam :D

Sagrada Familia is so amazing!

Hello!

I was bored (or rather, I treated this as an assignment.)
You can go read more about Sagrada Familia here.

Some quick cool facts:
1. The construction started in 1882 and is expected to be finished by 2026. (144 years!!!) The architect, Antoni Gaudi, is super amazing right!

2. Construction was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War. Stuff were destroyed eg. Gaudi's original models by the war. The present design is based on reconstructed versions of the lost plans as well as on modern adaptations. (Basis for the faster parts of the song? :b)

The only existing copy of his last recorded blue prints was destroyed by the anarchists in 1938 during the Spanish Civil War. This has made it very difficult for his workers to complete the church in the fashion Gaudí most likely would have wished. It is for this that Gaudí is known to many as "God's Architect". La Sagrada Família is now being completed, but differences between his work and the new additions can be seen.

3. Gaudi was a devout Catholic and he actually abandoned secular work in his later years to devote his like to Catholicism and probably designed for Sagrada Familia to be built because of that. (The building is designed to have 18 towers, 12 for the 12 apostles, 4 for the 4 evangelists, one for Mary and one for Jesus.)

4. There was a point when Barcelona's economy was bad and this caused construction to slow down. (Basis for slow parts of the song? :b)

5. Gaudi was hit by a tram on 7 June 1926. Because of his ragged attire and empty pockets, many cab drivers refused to pick him up for fear that he would be unable to pay the fare. He was eventually taken to a paupers' hospital in Barcelona. Nobody recognized the injured artist until his friends found him the next day. When they tried to move him into a nicer hospital, Gaudí refused, reportedly saying "I belong here among the poor." He died three days later on 10 June 1926, at age 73, with half of Barcelona mourning his death. He was buried in the midst of (La) Sagrada Família.

It looks really grand and cool!

hey batch!

just for your info, NTUSB played "The Bells of Sagrada Familia" when Mr Yagisawa came to Singapore in march. so to actually be playing that song is quite a privilege!~~

well, we still have quite some way to go, and let's make good use of our time okay! :D whatever song comes our way, let's accept and love it. and play it to our very best.

for it isn't the results that make a musician, it's the experience~

Continue striving hard for improvement and always encourage each other! Let's leave a brilliant legacy just like Batch '10 did and make the most out of our last year in RGSSB. Really Really good job with NBC!
I was at my orchestra practice when i received several SMSes of congratulationS,i suppose my body language was so unnatural after the announcement,so touched that our hardwork has finally paid off, through both result and self-contentment this time.

Yeap so i went hypered, whispered to Keyun who sat two seats on my left "We won!", and she noded "i know =)"

haha i had so much activities on my chair during the rehearsal, think both physically and emotionally.hmmm... the conductor scolded me :p. It is impolite but i cant help but say that its too much a challenge to contain the excitement and happiness at that moment. =)

"Hi, congrats whee! Here in RJ batch09 was jumping and screaming for you all :p great job!"

NBC is a good start for all of us,recognising the efforts we have put in for the past months. So take this as a confidence-boost for all of us, believe in our playing, and be best prepared mentally in our future competitions. As Mrs Koh had mentioned today that these competitions firstly serve the purpose of exposure in preparation for our SYF'11 next year, thus these experiences will certainly be the most fruitful and useful at times of SYF later on. =)

I totally agree with Keiko in her previous blogpost, that what is most important is always to remember the primary purpose of our existence as RGSSB. We are batches of fun-loving friends who love music, who motivate one another at all time,and who strives to perform our best for the school and the band.

Remember this sense pride (no matter it is school pride, personal pride, band pride, batch pride, sb pride)and confidence we've felt today, with our hearts joined in unison, lets continue to give our all in all our upcoming performances.=)

I'm not sure if you've read this poem on the library cupboard doors in band room; my SL, Rachel (thank you Rachel!), brought it up in her mail so I thought I could share:

I think we all know how demanding band pracs can get, or how it gets dry sometimes to play a really fantastic song over and over again; but I just want to say that sometimes, really, we need to press on yea :]

Upon entering band, we're making a promise to all our friends (bms, directs, seniors, juniors, everyone) who loves music here that we are going to put in our best. The "band" is us. When we say you have a responsibility to the band, it means you have a responsibility to your friends here. The "band"'s success depends on us and our friends and they also depend on us. When our friends are working real hard to make good music, if we don't put in that same amount of work, the music will never be good enough for her/their dream to be. So I think everyone, we work real hard often not because we think we're expected to be working, but because we all believe and know that we cannot let our friends who've been working really hard down. This is how we keep each other motivated and going.

NBC's tomorrow :] I'm not sure how many of us will see this in time, but I hope batch'11 can work together positively and get the frustrations out of our systems. We are all friends, we know the majority are really wishing hard to do well. Let's help them make it happen, and do what a friend should do and lend that support. It really doesn't matter how you think about band as a CCA or anything like that, because in band, we are all just trying to help each other, our friends, fulfill theirs and our dreams.

If you're naturally enthusiastic about making music that is really good! If you are not as driven as some friends, please think of band in the way I've illustrated and enjoy the experience :] Really please enjoy; and smile tomorrow ;]

The flutist blows a rapid jet of air across the embouchure hole. The pressure inside the player's mouth is above atmospheric (typically 1 kPa: enough to support a 10 cm height difference in a water manometer).

The clarinet player provides a flow of air at a pressure above that of the atmosphere (technically, about 3 kPa or 3% of an atmosphere: applied to a water manometer, this pressure would support about a 30 cm height difference).

The reed (as any clarinettist will tell you) is the key to making a sound. The player does work to provide a flow of air at pressure above atmospheric: this is the source of energy, but it is (more or less) steady. What converts steady power (DC) into acoustic power (AC) is the reed. The first part of the graph (and the dashed line) represents a resistance: flow proportional to pressure difference. Just like its electrical analogue, an acoustic resistor loses power. I never said anything during batch time on Cadenza so I must say something now C:

Sorry arh wasn't feeling overly motivational/ mushy two days ago.

Anyway Cadenza is over D: And I miss it like siao... It's like all those days of practice and what not, and it's over in two hours. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it like crazy, and even though it is our only Cadenza it was really really REALLY FUN. Yeah and actually we can play like in the alumni band (but what, 10 years down the road or sth? what is the criteria for "alumni"...)

And I'm glad we all enjoyed it even if we made mistakes (I for one, made a thousand careless mistakes which I could have avoided, totally)... As in, being in a concert would have been about enjoying it not berating oneself about mistakes.

Ok I don't really want to spout mushy stuff la-- so not my style x) .

My friends really loved Cadenza, and I'm sure all of them thought the ticket was worth their money. So jiayou batch!

PS. As a side note: my sister said during our singing parts these two RGS girls behind her in the 16 dollar seats were commenting on how our singing was so terrible, no wonder we didn't join choir LOL. x)

Hey darlings :]

I think the perforamnce was really great; the band was very collected after intermission, bravely carrying on with the concert, and that was truy amazing. WELL DONE EVERYONE!
Minor problems with tuning and coordination here and there, but they did little to hurt the brilliance of the concert in general :]

Despite falling from the stairs, I still think the experience was more of an enjoyable one than a painful one ;] Haha I am alright now too; thanks very much to bms who smsed to ask about my condition, I really appreciate the concern.

Back to the topic, I think Mr Oura's outburst during intermission brought the band closer together as a whole. Giving our section and band mates encouragement afterwards was truly bonding. The cause of Mr Oura's anger lies collectively on every one of us taking our own time meeting friends; it was not the fault of any section or commitee in particular. I think Mr Oura finds us complacent after a good performance in the fist half; we did not do a well-enough preparation job for the second half of the concert, lengthening intermission at our own will, and that made Mr Oura's unpleased: We were tardy and poorly disciplined.

I think we need to understand that we were all part of the band who made that mistake; there is no sole one person to blame. Please don't fault yourself over this incident. I think recently it's noticeable that the band has been slacking in time consciousness with delayed Attendence taking and prolonged setting down time; Mr Oura's outburst is really a timely reminder: We need to improve on self-discipline and time management as a whole. Learn from this mistake and improve as a band, and that's all to it; this mistake shouldn't weigh us down :] The performance was still fantastic; the audience really loved it, and that's what matters to us as performers :]

Cadenza, for me, opened new perspectives on the band and made me love band (and you guys) more :] Aww. I hope it's the same for you ;] Know that if you need us we're here yea.

All in all, the concert was a fabulous success and we deserve to feel proud of ourselves! :D Have a good rest the next week and enjoy this long weekend.

Hey Batch!

Well Done for Cadenza! We did really well today. Could hear many hearts in the concert hall today, we really have given our all, even for the after intermission segments, we have managed our emotions,and did the best we could. There are small slips, but it is really okay as long as we recover from them. These slips are normal and often inevitable, because there should always be a room for improvement i believe. Let's build on our confidence and courage to showcase, staying optimistic during concert even after you made a mistake!

We did good today as Band, and it has deinfinitely kicked a good start for RGS's concert Season!

It was partly Logs's mistake having overlooked the intermission time schedule, we should have been more aware of the bell and informed the band promptly, or such incidence wont have happened. We need to be very situationally aware for our next concert. I am sorry if this sounds something like a post-mortem. ><

I am very rather satisfied with how the concert has eventually turned , though today may not be an ALL smooth-sailing journey, it is still very eventful and memorialble, special situation- prone, and galmourous day for all of us. We have gone through this together, as a batch, as a band!

Just want to really spur everyone on for Cadenza. We've worked so hard all this while, really just put in our greatest efforts in practising now and give it our best. It's only when we worked really hard for the concert would we enjoy performing on stage; and it's only when we enjoy the concert would the audience enjoy it.

We work hard -> We're happy about our performance -> Audience happy about our performance. In the end everyone's happy :D
For the sake of either our happiness or the audience's, we should work hard ;]

Since this will be our only Cadenza, please really leave no regrets. Don't go on stage with the guilt that we didn't practice hard enough and live with that regret well after Cadenza; it's our only chance to perform for our own conert in our band life so I really hope we can enjoy the experience and create happy memories together.

I believe ultimately it is us who want the concert and it is us who will be performing. Band concert, I think, is not really about band actually; it's really about individual players, and about ouselves - yourself. It's a concert whereby you showcase your music, whereby you perform with friends to make music. It's really your responsibility to work for it; it is Your concert. It's like performing in a skit or performing in a dance; although you're not the only performer on stage, it is still your concert. It's that sense of responsibility : it's my concert, people are coming to listen to me, if I don't prepare well for it I'm letting the audience and myself down.

I think through it all what I really want to say is to try our best and hardest and leave no regrets. As long as we could accomplish that, we would truly enjoy the experience of Cadenza. Please really really ENJOY this one performance we'd have :]

Our directs are coming next week, so I guess after all these inspirational posts, the most important would be just to use your own discretion (in Viv's words), because I believe everyone has a different idea in how they want to teach their own directs since different instruments require different kinds of skills. So I think the most important thing now is to discuss within your own SB, and agree on an approach which you guys feel is the best for the training of both your direct's attitude towards band, as well as her playing skills.

That much said, HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLORIA! XD

Okay, that's all I have to say as most of the points have already been reflected in Keiko and Duoni's posts, as well as in our discussions on batch forum.

Hey Batch :]

I was looking at the posts and some thoughts crossed my mind. I'd like to recommend bms to read Duoni's post after reading this :] In the post, a phrase 'instead of TEACHING AND TELLING THEM,we can DISCUSS AND SHARE with them' was mentioned and it started me off here.

I believe a big problem we face now is of juniors being afraid to play or losing the faith to play. If I don't play at all and the band still sounds good, why do I need to practise or play? I think we've all been through this phase in our S1/2 years feeling unimportant and that band can function well without us; ut we're over it now :] If your junior seems to feel that way, share your experiences in Sec1/2 with her, be patient, listen to her; chances are she'll be motivated by you, and do better. Keeping every member of community feeling valued and cared for will push everyone to their best; hence pushing the Entire community to perform better.

We can start small by just encouraging the Sec2s and future Sec1s around us. But slowly this compassion will spread inter-batch and when it does, it'll automatically bond batches of seniors and juniors together. We don't need more band outings or inter-batch games, we don't need to be super-friendly or super-nice; we just need to show a little more CONCERN, a little more LOVE to our Band Mates.

Perhaps Batch'11 doesn't need to leave a powerful legacy behind in RGSSB. We can leave a gentle one instead; one that gently binds batches together to form a strong, united community. Show more compassion :] I believe in time we'll see fruitful results.

Hello Batch!

We have exactly 3 MONTHS to CadeNza XII! Like Mr Oura has said, we have spent about 2 months to practise one piece,Percuses and we are now left with 3 months to practise the rest of the repertoires! So besides trying our best to maximise our practise time, it is also veryvery important to maximise the quality of our practice kay! Here are just some suggestions and reminders you guys may have already knew, but it is IMPORTANT! SO I SHALL NAGG IT THROUGH =)

1) Start honing your tone by playing loads and loads of loong notes, 3rds interval and even 5ths!

2) Practise supersuper slow for xxxxxtimes in anycase of fast run-ups/downs before you gradually speed up, when practise slow, emphasise on each note,make every note clear.

3) Do more read-ups on your instrument! Get to know her/him before both of you can MAKE GOOD MUSIC! These background knowledge and understanding will also help you alot during direct taking.

Kay, I hope the above technical reminders is helpful in some ways. Expression wise, i believe with all the technical ability and agility, it will be WILL and COURAGE! ;)

In pboard meetings we have always discussed about how Year 3 is the linking bridge between the 4s and 2s, being the connection that joins this whole community together. Same for band, keep a look out on the reddy Batch'12 and give them advise and help when you see the need to. It is not an easy year for them (this is their first RGSSB FORMAL CONCERT in their band journey!), and they are going to be the ones that will fight SYF GOLD WITH HON with us next year. We dont have to be always TEACHING THEM AND TELLING THEM,we can DISCUSS AND SHARE with them instead.

K, i have this really cool analogy that i want to share it again! RGSSB is like a Horse Carriage,Batch 10 is like the horses, the ultimate engine that is leading the way. Batch 12 is the carriage itself, following and constantly influenced by the change in direction and speed. WE,are the cool carriage riders! The middle man between the horses and the carriage! We help feedback to the horses where the carriage want to go (their ideas and conditions) and we update the carriage on our speed and progress (help them better relate and better understand band so that they can catch up and learn!) awesome RIGHT?!!!

At last i want to say that our batch is nevertheless a veryvery dynamic batch,we are clear of our goals, possess a lot of initiatives and also the WILL to works to our goals. i want to say im really proud of you guys and i can see many of you budding into suitable candidates for future band leaders. As a batch, do also try to work on our influence, not only to our little directs but to the entire band. Think about the image of Batch'11 that we want RGSSB to remember.

Hey everyone, I'm not sure whether everyone has heard Dance of the Jesters, but here's a video of it anyway. :)

Cadenza's in 3 months and we've barely started on our repertoire, so we have to work hard AND TRY YOUR BEST OK. I'm sure you all know that there's still a lot of room for improvement, and Cadenza is something you'd want to be memorable, so we have to make sure we don't have any regrets about it. D: It is a really fun experience, since you get to play a wider variety of pieces (than in SYF years) so cherish it. It's the only Cadenza we'll get to play in (for most of us). JIAYOU ARH, OK? :D
Oh and you know what. I think we should really try to indiv more on Fridays. Even the Sec 2s do so lor. ._. But of course schoolwork comes first. If you have the time, it'll be great if you can indiv! :D
I hope I don't sound naggy - really sorry if I do. .-. But I think it's really important so... :D

If bms can recall our discussion before the start of the year (sorry to those who couldn't make it), I think the most important thing for all of us to realise is being a good direct goes beyond the tutoring of technics and playing. We should work on sowing seeds of passion for band in the directs' hearts, and that may be the most vital but often neglected part of being a good direct. I do not mean that teaching technical fingerings, etc. are less important - they are just as important, but sometimes we have to remember that those things are not the only things that matter.

A band is a group of people that keep together to make music together. If this group of people do not share the same level of passion for what they're doing, the music produced will definitely be of a lower quality than when they are equally passionate; even if techniques of band mates were the same. We can somewhat keep a distance from our directs as we need to maintain a disciplinary role, but that doesn't mean we need to be forbiding and scary to make sure they practice. Be stern when necessary, but be kind and firm for most of your time together. Don't make her become fearful of you, that may just smother that little spark of passion she's starting to feel for band.

We agreed that our ultimate goal is to have the directs respect us and thus listen to us. They shouldn't be listening to us because we have the authority, or because they fear us. There's leadership involved here too; being a good leader means having people respect you and thus listen to you, and not listen to you because you have the leadership role.

I suppose finding the right measure to take is difficult. Looking to a good teacher as guiding mark may make things easier. Personally I look to my theory teacher; bms can always find your own someone (a good teacher, etc.) to look to :] Asking our seniors for advice when teaching gets tough helps too, given their experience.

I found a book on educating yound teens another day, and find certain things very relevant. I shouldn't go on about the book here but if you face any problems in future, maybe you can come to me and I can give some advice on what to do :]

Thank you to Yi Xian, Ying Qin and Celine for bringing up the more technical side of direct-taking. What you pointed out helped a lot in setting realistic expectations for our directs :]

Merry Post-Christmas! A little reminder about the coming Monday :]

We'll be having an Informal foot drills prac as a batch in the morning, around 7/7.30-8.15am, at the corr. Do come earlier to prac with us, since our juniors will be observing us for foot drills (on Mon itself) according to the commanders. We'd like to set a good example yea :]

After band and footdrills on Monday, we'll have a Batch discussion on the common attitude we'd like to take towards future directs and about the direct-direct system in general. Just a little sharing of the feelings :] The seniors pointed out that such a discussion is necessary so that the batch can have a clearer idea of how we'd like to portray ourselves as direct-seniors and how the realtionship between us and the directs should be maintained. (Thank you to the seniors for your advice and suggestions :] )

BATCH CHALET!!

HEY! ;]

These are the photos from Batch Chalet'09! The photos are in chronological order :]

This is the first day of chalet's (15th) dinner preparation photo. We have Weilin, Wanyi (our main chef!), May and Cassandra in the photo busy cutting vegetables and slamon for our dinner :]

Celine and Xing Ern decided to come into the kitchen to see how they could help ;] Camera-shy Xing Ern had decided to hide away from the camera *aww*

Meanwhile bms who are not cooking sits around the TV to watch Ellen ;]

Dinner's ready! Everyone's sitting around the table beginning their meal. We had Fried salmon, Green veggies and Egg with sausage for this day. It tasted really good :] Thank you so much cooks ;]

After dinner patriotic us gathered around TV to watch Sea Games. Random "Go Singapore!"s were shouted around the TV XD

After playing games (sorry no photos were taken) and bathing, we get ready for sleep :] Ying Qin, still nopt feeling the fatigue, decides to have a pillow fight with Duoni!

Finally everyone's getting tired :] In Fluboes room we have Celine and Xing Ern crashing. Clars have 2 rooms to themselves while trumpets have one room for themselves.

The next morning bms wake up early to celebrate Cass's brithday! Ying Qin and I decided to make a Bread + Nutella + Chocolate Ice cream cake for her :] Above are holes made in the ice cream tub for Cass's cake XD

Now we have our breakfast of bread and Nutella.

At the night of 16th, our cooks whipped out yet another good meal for us :] We had Fried cabbage and carrots, Boiled chicken soup wth corn and Egg with luncheon meat. We had to get the auntie from food court area to help us open the luncheon meat can, haha! Love you cooks for all the good food ;]

Later on in the night, Cass's family drops by to celebrate her birthday for her :]

After eating the cake, we head out to cycle at the Pasir Ris park for some fresh night air. The night air felt great ;] Double biking was a little more difficult than we imagined, but we cycled fine. Some screamings here and there from bumping and crashing into each other X]

Thank yous to trumpets for volunteering to stay back to look after the chalet :]

The next morning (17th) the batch cycles to Macdonalds at Downtown East for breakfast.

While waiting for May to return from the toilet, we begin a clapping-tapping exercise outside Macdonalds inspired by what Mr Oura did during prac. Passers-by were giving us odd looks, hm ;D Sorry no photos were taken durng the excercise :] (it's pretty unglam X] )

Later on we cycle around Pasir Ris park and pause to take some photos. This one's of us posing aound the tree, haha!

Haha! XD Our first attempt of the formation.

After cycling, we return to chalet for some poker cards game. The Clars taught us their sb fave game: Bridge. It is a pretty addictive game ;]

We take a final photo before we leave the chalet in the afternoon of 17th Dec :]

In total 11 of us have went to the chalet. We've taken lots of pictures for those of you who couldn't come promised :] Sorry there's no pictures of the chalet itself. I didn't realise no pictures were taken of it until I was sorting through the photos yesterday night. Hm it's is a two storey terrace with 4 rooms, 8 beds, a kitchen, a TV and 3 toilets :] It's a little old with some insects around, but overall it was a good stay. Hope my desciption can help you imagine how it looks like ;D

We played many games in the night before we slept, there was some, hm, crazy biology talk about human life on the 16th night too. Haha! Wanyi tried to tell some ghost stories, but we were all too scared to listen, hehe. The games were really fun, thank you to Gloria for getting the games for us :] It was really a pity that so many bms couldn't make it. Hopefully we can have a chalet next year and you guys can come for that one :]

WELL DONE FOR INUNION!

My directs said our performance was a "good job", yay ;] Everything flowed remarkably smoothly compared to past pracs, I thought it was really good ;] *clap clap*

Now that Inunion's over, there's still band outing and batch chalet to look forward to :] Check batch forum for updates on the chalet! The list of foods/dishes bms are able to cook will be posted shortly. Seems that most bms can't cook, but that's ok; you can always cut vegetables or help with preparation work instead :]

hi batch!

I lost my tuner. >< and I don't even know whether I lost it on the way home, at home, or left it in school. I remember having it on the Wednesday Band prac (last week) coz I put it under my chair... but I can't remember if I actually brought it back home. Coz I remember I didn't want to take it out for sectionals after lunch so I left it in the Band room, but I don't remember anything about it after that.

I'm not sure if I left it in school or not! But I remember that the only thing I took out of my bag was my file so I could write notes on the scores... so I can't possibly have left the tuner at home. Which leaves only two possibilities-- either I left it in school or I dropped it on the way home... which is not very possible I think...

So please please PLEASE D: help me ask around your sections to check if they saw any lone tuner lying around coz I didn't write my name on it!!! So it's just this black tuner with wires wrapped around it so anyone could have mistaken it for their section tuner or something. Please help me ask around!!! Thank you so much! Oh and if you see any tuner lying around that no one is taking any notice of, it could be mine, coz I could only have left it in the Batch Corr or the Band room... and I'm scared that if I left it in the Batch Corr the green men might have thrown it away thinking it was rubbish or something.

I really really need the tuner coz my senior can't find hers either so right now my section only has one tuner... and I can't just go out and buy a new one coz it's not cheap, and my parents would kill me >< Even if I used my own money I still don't have a chance to go out to buy one...

So please help me look out for a tuner, and help me to ask your section members if they know of any tuner left behind! Thank you! I appreciate the help!

My classmates were very impressed by our item :] They commented that we were the star of the night ;] (I don't suppose they were only being polite, my class is very straightforward.)

About Inunion, the script will be done by next week. Every bm will be given a role to act :] There'll be a quality check on every batch's item a week before Inunion (aka next week) according to Joanne, so we'll have to cram in time for rehearsing on Tue and Thu, maybe during lunch. Yea it'll be fun ;]

Regarding batch chalet, some bms were asking for more details. Please go to the forum for updates :] Contribute ideas on what to do too (thanks duan duan!), we have 3 days there after all. We won't want to spend the entire time playing poker cards ;]

The chalet is from 15 - 17 Dec, Tue - Thu. We'll go for band on Tue and head for the chalet together in the afternoon :] The chalet is the one that the directs went last year, the semi-detached. Pearlyn has kindly lent us her account to book the chalet with :]

Please pay $15 to me if you are going. No matter how long you should stay for the chalet, do pay $15 still to avoid complications. Thank you for your understanding :]

batch chalet!!

ARE YOU EXICTED?
Our batch chalet is confirmed to be:
15th to 17th Dec (Tue - Thu)
Around 16/15 of us would be going according to the list I've collated. I am very sorry to the few who could not go. We'll have another one next year yea :]

Every bm coming need to pay around $15 for the 3 nights. Sorry for the slightly high price, it turned out we didn't get a discount I thought they'd be giving us. Please bring the money for coming band pracs :] Feel free to double check with me if travel plans have changed or if you're unsure of what you've said about travel plans :]

The chalet is at Pasir Ris next to DownTown and Pasir Ris park. It is a "Fully-furnished semi-detached chalet (with 4 bedrooms)" as quoted from the website ;] It's pretty huge. We will be sleeping on the floor (most of us) sice there aren't 16 beds for everyone, so binging a sleepbag will be good.The chalet can be air-conditioned, but we'd need to pay extra money; we can discuss this at the chalet itself :]

More details of chalet's layout is in the batch chalet post of Oct if you'd like to refresh your memory. More information about how to get there, etc. would be given as the chalet draws closer ;]

Meanwhile think of things to do at the chalet! We'd be having band pracs on Tue and Thu of the chalet (most likely) so we have the whole of Tue night and Wed day for activities. The chalet's next to Pasir Ris beach/park; we can have seaside activities e.g. building sand castles , kite flying (haha!), etc. We can walk around DownTown as well ;]

CHALETS

HEY!

Chalets are open for booking every first day of the month for the following month, e.g. First day of Jan is for booking of chalets for Feb. Therefore we can only book chalets for Dec, since we missed the opportunity to book for chalets in Nov at the beginning of Oct :]

The chalets will be booked around 15-31 Dec, a 4/3-day chalet, as that's the period where most bms can make it :] A big sorry to those who couldn't make it. We can always have a chalet next year ;]
